 Phonics:

Each afternoon we have grouped phonic sessions, depending on the children's phonic knowledge.  We use the scheme  'Twinkl phonics' and participate in a range of activities each session, including flashcard recall, playing phonics games and completing written evidence. The children in Stream class are working on Phase 3 - 5. Please see the sound mats below.

English

This academic year in Stream Class, your child will be given many opportunities to practice their Reading, Writing Transcription, Writing Comprehension, Spelling & Grammar.

We will be writing for a range of purposes and audiences.

During Spring Term 2, the text we are looking at is called 'Our Tower'. You can watch the text by clicking here.

We will be creating our own towers using water colours and wax crayons. We will be making special stones linked to the book using clay and clay tools, linked to the story. We will be using the fantasy theme of the story to support us to create our own fantasy story plan. This multisensory approach will engage the children and ensure they enjoy the English provision.

We will learning about the following:

I can explore and compare the differences between living and non-living things

I can notice that animals, including humans, have offspring which grow into adults

I can describe how animals obtain their food using the simple idea of food chains

I can describe the life cycles of mammals, amphibians and birds

We will do this in a variety of ways, including group work and more independent work.

PSHE

At The Holy Brook School we talk lots about our feelings. Below is an example of our Zones of Regulation. We use this to support children identify which zone they may be in and which emotions go with that. We will be discussing the Zones of Regulation's and how to manage our feelings.

You can support your child by:

  • Engaging in turn-taking activities at home
  • Encouraging your child to prepare their own meals
